A Festival sponsor for 14 consecutive years, Christie has played an integral role in ushering in the digital age at this renowned showcase for local and international talents. Today, with the help of this partnership, more than 99 percent of all Festival entries are screened digitally, with an increasing number in 4K, sharpening the shared experience between filmmaker and audience.
Columbia Pictures’ The Amazing Spider Man 2 marks a groundbreaking collaboration between visual effects, sound and post-production teams from Sony Pictures Entertainment. The Academy Award-winning Sony Pictures Imageworks crafted over 1000 visual effects shots, Sony Pictures Post Production provided sound – its first project in in Dolby Atmos – and Colorworks performed film scanning, conforming and color grading all in 4K.
Christie has been selected by preferred partner Digital Media Systems to provide the 3D digital cinema projection technology for the world premiere of 20th Century Fox’s film X-Men: Days of Future Past on Saturday, May 10. DMS will transform the River Pavilion at the Jacob Javits Convention Center into a theater to screen the highly anticipated X-Men sequel, with two Christie Solaria Series digital cinema projectors onto a 26-foot by 62-foot screen.
Filmmaker and visual effects legend Douglas Trumbull is partnering with Christie on May 11 to premiere UFOTOG, a dramatic 10-minute experimental sci-fi story about a lone man attempting to photograph UFOs. Directed by Trumbull and created in 4K 3D at 120 frames per second, the short film will be screened on a Christie Mirage 4K35, the 4K DLP resolution projector running at 120Hz, at the Seattle Cinerama Theater’s 2nd Annual Sci-Fi Film Festival.
The fully restored and digitally mastered 4K high frame rate version of the hit musical Oklahoma! premiered at the TCM Classic Film Festival on April 10 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This historic screening of the 1955 Todd-AO classic is the first time a high bitrate and HFR DCP has been created and exhibited as part of the restoration of a feature film classic.
Pioneering London facilities company Onsight has purchased two Precision Panels to help drive their Mistika grading and finishing suites in 4K, 3D and HD. They will be installed at the company’s new WC2 premises by St Martins Lane, which also includes 4K projection.
SGO today announced that its flagship color grading and finishing platform, Mistika, now supports Dolby Vision technology, enabling the display of high dynamic range images with wider color gamut capabilities. SGO, working in close collaboration with Dolby, will look to make the Dolby Vision workflow capabilities available in Mistika from version 8.2, which was previewed at NAB and is due for release shortly after IBC 2014.
Canadian boutique post-production company Slik has invested in SGO's Mistika post-production system to expand its 4K capabilities and color grading.

Sony has added the a7S to its line of full-frame interchangeable lens DSLR cameras. The announcement came during last week’s National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas.
