Fresh Air Flicks founder/owner Glen Sanders spotted the trend of outdoor cinema early on as it gained traction in Brooklyn and other communities. Starting out in 2004, Sanders and Fresh Air Flicks were providing giant inflatable screens for events like Movies with a View that would bring as many as 8,000 people out for an evening to watch films in the park beneath the Brooklyn Bridge.
Christie celebrated its 400th Christie Vive Audio cinema sound system installation with Showtime Cinemas in Taiwan. In conjunction with Taiwanese partner, Dacoms Technology, Showtime Cinemas purchased the 400th installation of the Christie Vive Audio cinema sound system to complement their 17 auditoriums in the upcoming Taichung Showtime Cinemas in Taichung, Taiwan. The cinemas will feature speakers from the Christie Vive Audio LA Series along with a Christie RGB Laser Projection System with enhanced wavelength diversification, plus Christie CP2215, Christie CP2220, and Christie CP2230 DLP digital cinema projectors. The Showtime Cinemas installation is the largest of any Christie customer in the Asia Pacific region.
Dolby Laboratories today announced the company has exceeded major milestones, including the installation of 2,000 Dolby Atmos enabled cinema screens and the release of 500 movie titles mixed in Dolby Atmos. Since debuting in 2012 with Disney•Pixar’s Brave, Dolby Atmos has paved a new course for creative storytelling, transforming the ways in which audiences worldwide experience sound.
The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor Guillermo del Toro with its annual Filmmaker Award. The acclaimed director of such films as Hellboy (2004), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), Pacific Rim (2013), Crimson Peak (2015) and the forthcoming The Shape of Water is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the art of cinema. He will receive the award at the MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony February 19 in Los Angeles.
Dolby Laboratories and The Walt Disney Studios today announced that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in theatres December 16, will be available in more than 50 Dolby Cinema locations around the globe.
AMC will have 100 Dolby Cinema at AMC screens by the end of 2017 with plans to build 60 more by the end of 2018. A senior AMC executive made that announcement during a press screening held recently at AMC’s 25 Theatres in midtown Manhattan.
The Mathäser Filmpalast (m) K6 Auditorium in Munich is the first in Germany to be awarded a QSC-Certified Theatre certification. CinemaNext and QSC made the announcement. Kinopolis’ largest cinema complex, the Mathäser Filmpalast now boasts a Dolby Atmos cinema auditorium powered by QSC Q-SYS audio technology.
Cinemark has signed a three-year agreement to equip its theatres throughout North America, Central America and South America with Harman cinema audio solutions. Following an extensive review process that involved testing six demo systems from different manufacturers, Cinemark chose Harman’s JBL speakers and Crown amplifiers for their superior sound quality and reliable operation.
ArcLight Cinemas has selected Meyer Sound cinema audio systems for three screens at new upscale multiplex theaters in Chicago, Illinois; Bethesda, Maryland; and Santa Monica, California. A fourth Meyer Sound system was installed earlier at ArcLight Cinemas’ La Jolla, California location.
GDC Technology and Dolby Laboratories have reached an agreement to resolve the litigation filed by GDC against Dolby.
