Cinionic, Sony Marketing Bring Barco Laser Projection to Toho Cinemas

Cinionic, a Barco company and global leader in laser cinema, announced today that has teamed up with Sony Marketing to bring laser projection to the cinema market in Japan. The companies are enabling the transition to laser with Barco Series 4 projectors in a cumulative total of 232 screens at Toho Cinemas, with the installation of 85 units by the end of February 2024.

Tokyo Laboratory Closing in November; Will Destroy Unclaimed Films

Tokyo Laboratory, headquartered in the Chōfu section of Tokyo and doing business as Togen, has announced that it will shut down at the end of November after 68 years in business. The company added that after the end of October, it will dispose of any unclaimed film originals still in its possession. Thus, the company is working toward returning all film originals to its clients.

Toho Cinemas Installing Cinionic Laser Projection in 159 Theatres

Toho Cinemas, Japan, is installing Cinionic’s Barco Series 4 laser projection in 159 of its theatres. Following an initial laser installation in late 2020 at Toho Cinemas’ Tachikawa Tachihi location, laser projection by Cinionic was selected for the chain’s presentation technology renewal. Work is now underway to complete the project in the coming months, offering Japanese moviegoers an environmentally friendly and elevated cinematic experience.

United Cinemas, Japan, Installing Flexound Augmented Audio

Flexound Augmented Audio from Finland will open in December in 10 auditoriums of United Cinemas theatre in Odaiba, Japan with Avatar: The Way of Water. The technology provides personal immersive audio and natural vibration in theatre seats. Aeon Entertainment, Japan, Adding Two Imax Theatres

Aeon Entertainment and Imax Corporation today announced plans to expand their partnership with an agreement for two new, Imax with Laser systems in Japan. Both new systems will be located at prime retail complexes in thriving suburbs of major Japanese cities, including the Aeon Cinema Ichikawa Myoden outside Tokyo and Aeon Cinema Shijonawate near Osaka.
