Included among these is Bulletproof, which airs on Sky One in the UK and CW in the U.S., as well as the British film, Ghost Stories. For more than three decades, Warner Bros. re-recording mixer Jonathan Wales has created audio magic for numerous feature films, documentaries and television shows. Two recent projects were the Warner Bros. movie Doctor Sleep and the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. As content creation and technical specifications change, Wales finds himself having to adapt to newer audio compliance standards across a variety of platforms.

Mixing Journey to the Future

Discovery Network’s Journey to the Future, produced by Storied Media, is a documentary focused on the behind-the-scenes lead-up to America’s historic SpaceX Falcon 9 launch. Several packages were also produced for use throughout the live broadcasts. Among the professionals who worked tirelessly on these projects was re-recording mixer Michael Phillips Keeley, CAS, who helped create the soundscape.

Delta Soundworks: Beyond Cinema

Ana Monte, lead sound designer and Daniel Deboy, lead sound engineer founded Delta Soundworks in Heidelberg, Germany in 2016. The company is a 3D/immersive audio post-production facility with projects that span across installations, virtual reality, 360-degree films and gaming, as well as feature films, documentaries, TV shows and commercials. Their team consists of a highly skilled and creative group of production sound mixers, recording engineers, sound designers, Foley artists, composers and music producers. Digital Cinema Report recently spoke with Monte and Deboy about their business and some very interesting projects.

“Mixers are artists, and I am a firm believer in the creative process,” says re-recording mixer Binder. “In the post-production audio business, we get looked at as technicians instead of artists. I believe that George Lucas was right when he said, ‘sound and music are 50 percent of the entertainment in a movie.’ ” Binder should know. He’s worked with some of the most notable names in the TV and film industry, including the Russo brothers, J.J. Abrams and Mark Mangini. His resumé also boasts a variety of high-profile projects such as Star Trek, Paranormal Activity, Community, Channel Zero, Deadly Class and Super 8.
