In the UK, a media first, the Royal Air Force has become the first advertiser to partner with Cineworld as the sole sponsor of the cinema chain’s 4DX format. The spot has been specially adapted into CJ 4DPlex’s 4DX format, which is available across 34 Cineworld cinema sites. The enhanced version of the ad will run in the Gold Spot premium position across all 4DX enabled screens. The non-4DX ad will run simultaneously across the rest of Digital Cinema Media’s estate.

NCM Launches 2024 U.S. Young Lions Competition

The U.S. Representative of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and largest cinema advertising platform, National CineMedia has launched the 2024 U.S. Young Lions competition. Registration is open now through February 2 for advertising, marketing and communications industry professionals aged 30 or under. The categories for the 2024 competition are Digital, Film, Media, PR, and Print and the competition runs from February 8-20. The winners in each of the five categories become TEAM USA and head to Cannes, France to compete on a global stage at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June.

DCM Taking Over The Light’s Cinema Advertising Business

The British independent cinema chain, The Light, has appointed Digital Cinema Media to grow its ad revenue and build brand partnerships across its portfolio. After a competitive pitch process, DCM will take over the current contract, which is held by Pearl & Dean, starting January 12. The new partnership gives DCM two percent of the UK cinema market.

Christie Releases Student’s Prize-Winning Cinema Trailer

Christie Digital Cinema’s new cinema trailer made its world debut last week at CineAsia in Bangkok, Thailand. The trailer was created by Mila Paulman, a fourth-year student majoring in film and media production at Toronto’s Humber College, and directed and produced by Kitchener, Canada’s Digital Sabbath Film Company, with post-production by Company 3.

Spotlight Cinema Networks Offers New Program Capabilities; Hires New VP

Cinema Audience Attention Span Highest of all Video Platforms, Study Shows

New research shows that the cinema audience's attention span is seven times higher than any other video platform. The research was conducted by Lumen, attention specialists who work with media clients to better understand audience attention to advertising. A person's attention span while watching an advertisement on an average video platform is 2.5 seconds, according to attention technology research conducted by Lumen.

Pearl & Dean Starts Something Good

UK cinema advertising contractor Pearl & Dean and experience agency Dive have established a cinema partnership with KP Snacks and its popchips snack brand. The popchips campaign, which is running now to mid-November, is part of popchips’ broader “start something good” messaging and brings together an outdoor cinema partnership with Adventure Cinema, branded content creation, and a national cinema campaign.
