In early 2013, director Mark Hayes read a story about a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, Craig Mitchell, who started the Midnight Mission running club consisting of former substance abusers, ex-convicts, homeless people and others who fell on hard times — either by making the wrong choices at earlier points in their lives, or by simple misfortune.

Hannah: Buddhism’s Untold Journey, the story of a courageous and enigmatic woman, Hannah Nydahl, who dedicated her life to spreading Buddhism to the West, premiered in North America at the 17th Annual ARPA International Film Festival, hosted at the legendary Egyptian Theater in Hollywood last week. It received the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary.

Remote Area Medical Filmmakers Respond to Closing of Free Clinic

Editor’s Note: New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office turned down an offer from the group Remote Area Medical to offer free health care to thousands of New Yorker’s the day after Thanksgiving. Filmmakers Jeff Reichert and Farihah Zaman have made a documentary about Remote Area Medical, which opens in New York on November 28. They published an open letter in response. Here is their letter:
