Cinépolis Pejaten Village in southern Jakarta is installing Christie projectors. This is the exhibitor’s first multiplex in Indonesia to be fully equipped with Christie RGB pure laser projectors. It houses five auditoriums fitted with Christie CP2309-RGB and CP2320-RGB models.
QSC has named Ian Freer field sales engineer (cinema), APAC. In his new role, Freer will be primarily responsible for product support in the Asia Pacific region. He brings a comprehensive career of technical support knowledge, with over twenty years of roles in the cinema industry.
The Long Walk is the third feature film by director Mattie Do (Chanthaly, Dearest Sister), who was raised in Los Angeles but relocated to Laos to become the country’s first, and only, female filmmaker. In an interview in Women and Hollywood, Do described her genre-bending film as “an unconventional time-travel thriller set in a forgotten rural village in Laos, about the ethos of a man, plagued by regret and loneliness, and his downward spiral into becoming a serial killer. He also has a very complicit ghostly friend.” Cinematographer Matthew Macar shot the low-budget feature over 32 days in Vientiane, Laos with very little prep time.
Sullurpet, a small town in Andhra Pradesh, around 80 kilometers from Chennai, is now home to South Asia’s largest movie theatre screen, the 100-foot wide by 54-foot high Epiq. Chennai-based Qube cinemas unveiled the first of its kind premium large format screen last month. Qube Cinemas is one of India’s foremost providers of end-to-end digital cinema technology and solutions.
Mingalar Cinemas is Myanmar’s largest movie theatre chain with twenty-seven locations across eight cities. Mingalar also owns and operate the first high-definition Gold Class cinema in the country, which features three halls with luxurious, automatic reclining seats and cutting-edge visuals. In order to deliver premium sound in their Gold Class theaters, Mingalar entrusted Goldenduck Group, a leading supplier of professional cinema equipment, with installing a JBL Professional cinema audio system.
Malaysian cinema chain Shah Alam has opened a new theatre, TGV Central i-City, that features the largest Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen in Southeast Asia.
Indonesia’s Cinema 21 has ordered fifty Barco Series 4 SP4K-25 projectors as part of the chain’s new build and renewal strategy. The Barco Series 4, which was announced last week at CinemaCon, features 4K, RGB-Laser projection and is ready for 4K 120fps high frame rate, high-dynamic-range and wide-color-gamut capabilities.
Unique X has expanded its operations in South East Asia in a new deal with fast-growing Indonesian cinema chain, Cinemaxx. The agreement will see Unique X install RosettaBridge theatre management system, RosettaNet and Basekey key delivery message management systems across all 47 Cinemaxx sites, currently incorporating a total of 239 screens.
Cinema 21, the largest movie theater chain in Indonesia, is expanding its fleet of RGB pure laser cinema projectors by acquiring 100 additional units of Christie’s next-generation cinema projectors featuring Christie RealLaser illumination.
Showtime Cinemas, Taiwan, is automating their content management using Arts Alliance Media’s Screenwriter theatre management system. Local integrator Dacoms Technology is handling the installation.
