Gearing Up for The Letdown

Netflix and the Australian Broadcast Corporation have partnered to produce a new comedy series, The Letdown. Produced and written by Sarah Scheller and Alison Bell, the pilot and six half hour episodes follows Audrey, played by Bell, as she navigates the chaos of motherhood while still trying to balance a career-focused husband, a self-absorbed mother, and a care-free best friend. The series also stars Duncan Fellows, Sacha Horler, Noni Hazelhurst and Celeste Barber. Cinematographer Judd Overton shot the series with Panasonic VariCam LT cameras.

Arri Alexa Wins Emmy

The Television Academy has announced that Arri is a recipient of one of the 69th Engineering Emmy Awards for outstanding achievement in engineering development for its Arri Alexa digital motion picture camera system. The Television Academy’s Engineering Emmys are presented to individuals, companies, or organizations for engineering developments that considerably improve existing methods or innovations that materially affect the transmission, recording, or reception of television.

Cooke is the S.M.A.R.T. Choice

While language barriers posed some initial challenges for the Chinese and international crew and cast of S.M.A.R.T. Chase, the upcoming action thriller produced by Bliss Media and starring Orlando Bloom, the choice of camera and lenses did not. The film was directed by Charles Martin and shot by director of photography Philipp Blaubach using Cooke Anamorphic/i lenses on Arri Alexa digital cameras to capture the modern architecture and dazzling night skyline of Shanghai.

Arri Celebrates a Century

Exactly 100 years to the day after Arri’s inception, the film technology company held an exclusive centenary celebration for select guests at the Isarforum of Munich's famed Deutsches Museum. On September 12, Arri's executive board and members of the Stahl family, the company’s owners, welcomed around 100 guests, including long-standing clients, partners, and companions from the global film industry.

Shooting The Deuce

HBO’s drama series The Deuce, set and around New York’s Times Square in the 1970s, tells the story of the legalization and growth of the porn industry, as well as the rise of HIV and the drug epidemic. The series stars James Franco, playing twin brothers Vincent and Frankie Martino, who become fronts for the Mob. Maggie Gyllenhaal also stars as Eileen “Candy” Merrell, a sex worker who is drawn into the porn industry. Created and written by David Simon (The Wire, Treme) and crime fiction author George Pelecanos, The Deuce was shot by cinematographer Vanja Cernjul, ASC (Orange Is the New Black, Nurse Jackie).

Sony Unveils Venice

Sony Electronics is unveiling Venice – its first full-frame digital motion picture camera system. Venice is the next generation of Sony’s CineAlta camera systems, designed to expand the filmmaker’s creative freedom through immersive, large-format, Full Frame capture of filmic imagery producing natural skin tones, elegant highlight handling and wide dynamic range. Venice was designed through close collaboration with the creative community, fulfilling the requirements from filmmakers and production professionals.
