Kinepolis Expands Deal for Imax with Laser Systems

Kinepolis and Imax today announced a global expansion of their longstanding partnership with eight Imax with Laser systems across Europe, Canada and the U.S. The agreement includes four new locations across Europe — including France, Belgium, Spain, and the first-ever Imax system in Luxembourg — as well as a new location in Michigan and Ontario and two upgraded systems in Ontario.

Tonis Kiis, the senior vice president of international distribution at Warner Bros., has been named CineEurope’s 2023 International Distributor of the Year award recipient. The award will be presented June 22 as part of the CineEurope Awards Ceremony hosted by the Coca-Cola Company at the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain.

European Box Office to Exceed €5.6 Billion

The International Union of Cinemas, representing European cinema trade associations and operators, has today released preliminary estimates for 2022 box office and admissions across the territories it covers. UNIC’s overview represents the first wide-ranging assessment of European cinema’s performance last year. Detailed final data for each UNIC territory will be released in Spring 2023.

International Arthouse Cinema Association Calls for Support

The International Arthouse Cinema Association is calling for support after Creative Europe – Media cut funding for the only international training for arthouse cinemas. In 2004, the association established an international training course for young cinema professionals from Europe and many other countries to strengthen and build their skills, develop new ideas and create new business models for the cinema of the future in an ever-changing media world.
