Cinematographer Tat Radcliffe, BSC, chose the Cooke S7/i prime lens range paired with a Sony Venice to shoot the much-anticipated Netflix film adaptation of Matilda the Musical. Although it was important to stay true to the spirit of the stage show the team had to calibrate any sense of artificial stage.
The Tragedy of Macbeth—written four centuries ago for the stage—has been translated to the screen throughout cinema history. Replete with medieval atmosphere, witches, and murder, the iconic tale has now been retold by director Joel Coen. Working with director of photography Bruno Delbonnel ASC, AFC, Coen developed a visual approach to the bloody proceedings that emphasizes Shakespeare’s matchless language and the faces of the actors delivering it.
Set from 1913 to the early 1990s, HBO’s six-episode limited series I Know This Much is True required director Derek Cianfrance and cinematographer Jody Lee Lipes to make a choice: What would the show look like? They agreed that a cohesive, period look for the project would be the correct choice — as opposed to a contemporary look.
Travelers debuts December 23rd on Netflix, which will have exclusive international rights everywhere except in Canada, where it has already begun airing on Showcase. The original series is being released in 4K UHD.
