Dolby and the Wanying Cinema Line Company Limited have announced a partnership to extend the Dolby Cinema experience to more moviegoers in China. The exhibitor, which is wholly owned by China Resources Land Limited, operates movie theatres across China with the brand MixCine. The first location under the agreement is expected to be open at Wanying’s flagship site in Shenzhen with more locations to come in Southeast China in the following two years.
Warner Bros. Pictures and ScreenX are expanding their ongoing partnership to release the epic, action-packed undersea adventure The Meg in the immersive premium format. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Gravity Pictures, opens in cinemas worldwide beginning August 10.
Link Digital Cinema China Technology, Beijing has signed an agreement to purchase additional D-Box motion systems in an effort to meet the growing demand for premium entertainment experiences. In a previous agreement, Link China installed seven D-Box screens for key locations across the country. With this new contract, D-Box is expected to install many more screens before the end of the year with some already in the installation process.
CJ 4DPlex has opened three ScreenX sites in Switzerland this month through a partnership with Arena Cinemas. The first movie to open in the multi-screen format was Ant-Man and The Wasp. The initial Swiss openings include Arena cinemas in Fribourg, Geneva and Zurich.
Dolby Laboratories and the Kuwait National Cinema Company have entered into a three-screen agreement for the first deployments of Dolby Cinema in Kuwait. The first site is expected to open later this year at the 360 Mall in Kuwait City with KNCC operating under the Cinescape brand.
Bestar Cinemas in RuiAn, China has become the first Chinese multiplex to open an ÉclairColor high dynamic range auditorium. The Ymagis Group and Chinese cinema systems integrator Great Ocean made the announcement today.
On Wednesday CJ 4DPlex opened the first European 4DX with ScreenX theatre through a partnership with Les Cinémas Pathé Gaumont. Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp debuted in the 4DX with ScreenX format in Paris at the exhibitor’s Pathé Beaugrenelle multiplex.
This Thursday, in conjunction with the official grand opening of B&B Theatres’ newly-built, state-of-the-art, flagship Liberty 12 location in Liberty, Missouri – the largest ScreenX auditorium in the world will open to the public. It will be located on a screen measuring more than four stories tall and seven stories wide, with the capacity to seat 244 attendees.
South Africa’s Nu Metro Cinemas is opening Xtreme theatres at Nu Metro Emperors Palace in Johannesburg and Nu Metro Galleria on the KZN South Coast.
The Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios’ upcoming film Ant-Man and The Wasp will be released in ScreenX, CJ4DPlex’s panoramic film format. Ant-Man and The Wasp is set to premiere around the world beginning July 4.
