Producer McG to Run Newly Restored Lido Theatre

Hollywood producer Joseph McGinty Nichol, known professionally as McG, and his company River Jetty Restaurant Group, have been named the new operator of The Lido Theatre in Newport Beach, California. Meticulously restored to its original Art Deco design by owner the Fritz Duda Company, The Lido will host a community open house to celebrate the re-opening on October 5 and will host the 25th annual Newport Beach Film Festival October 17–24.

Kia Exclusive Automotive Partner of Curzon Cinemas

Kia has landed a new deal with Curzon Cinema as the exclusive automotive partner of the cinema chain – continuing to demonstrate its support of independent cinema. The partnership celebrates Curzon’s 90th anniversary year Curzon90 with a special program of iconic films, to mark this milestone. The partnership was brokered by leading cinema advertising contractor, Pearl & Dean and its experience agency Dive.

Independent Canadian Exhibitors Operating at a Loss

A study from the Network of Independent Canadian Exhibitors says that 60 per cent of independent cinema operators surveyed between December and February operated at a loss at the end of their most recent fiscal year. About two-thirds of the 67 respondents reported that they need increased public funding to remain operational. It was estimated that they would need about $50,000 in extra funding annually for three years to close the immediate gaps they face.

Avon Theatre Film Center Honors Co-Founders

The Avon Theatre Film Center will host Avon reCreated Celebrates and to honor co-founders Deborah and Chuck Royce September 14 at The Village Roof Top in Stamford, Connecticut. The event will honor their years of generosity and continued commitment to the historic Avon Theatre as outgoing board chairs and toast the new co-chairs of the Avon's board of directors, Susan Cullman, and Arthur Selkowitz.

The Totah Theatre is Reborn

One of New Mexico’s oldest movie theatres recently underwent a major renovation and has been given a new lease on life. Opened in 1949 and used as a movie theatre until 1982, the Totah Theatre thereafter was used as a performance theatre. In 2006, the Totah Theatre was converted into a multi-use performance hall. In 2020, San Juan County acquired, and in partnership with the City of Farmington renovated the facility to create a film center for the region.
