SmallHD Releases Free Firmware Upgrade

SmallHD has released the first firmware update for its line of 17-inch, 24-inch and 32-inch production monitors. “Based on industry and customer feedback, we created the greatly expanded firmware 1.0,” said company co-founder Wes Phillips. “We’ve integrated a ton of features to customize color and brightness. We believe we have truly unlocked the power of HDR Preview. Our customers will love the convenience and flexibility the new firmware adds.”

Storaro Discusses His First Digital Shoot

“When Woody Allen asked me to do Café Society, he had never done a digital capture before, but I knew that I had to jump completely into this new chance we had,” said Vittorio Storaro. “I wanted to see images on set that would be very close to the final result and afterwards on dailies even closer, almost 90 percent of that way to what we would see at the end.”

Remote Control Available for Panasonic AG-DVX200PJ 4K Camcorder

Panasonic has announced that an AG Remote Operation Panel application facilitating remote control of the AG-DVX200PJ 4K camcorder from an iPad is immediately available as a free download from the Apple App Store. Installation of a wireless module, AJ-WM30 or ASUS USB-N53 (both sold separately), is required. The firmware in the camcorder may need to be updated to the newest version. With iPad, iOS7.1, iOS8.1, iOS9 are supported. iPhone is not supported.

Documenting an Endangered Spider Monkey

Wildlife cinematographer Danny Schmidt plunged into Colombia’s remote Magdalena River Valley earlier this year to document the plight of the critically endangered brown spider monkey in a project for National Geographic. Schmidt and camera operator Federico Pardo had just eight days to locate the rare albino spider monkeys (their albinism is a genetic abnormality cause by habitat degradation), record their story and capture the fragile environment in which they live.
