CJ 4DPlex closed out 2018 by breaking records in box office and attendance with its 4DX immersive seating cinema technology. Theatres with the technology accounted for more than $290 million in worldwide box office and attracted more than 24 million attendees for the year.
Kinepolis Diversia in Madrid, Spain has installed CJ 4DPlex 4DX immersive seating and is the 600th 4DX auditorium in the world.
Golden Screen Cinemas plans to launch its first three CJ 4DPlex ScreenX theatres and to open three additional 4DX theatres in Malaysia.
Cinepax has announced plans to launch the first two 4DX immersive seating theaters in Pakistan. Cinepax’s flagship location, a 10 screen multiplex, at the Packages Mall, Lahore, will house the first 4DX theatre in the country. The second will be at the Ocean Tower mall in Karachi. Both installations are scheduled for 2019.
Cineplexx International has opened its second and third MX4D Theatre in less than two months, this time in Serbia. Located in the country’s capital of Belgrade, which has a population of more than a million people, Cineplexx’s second MX4D theatre boasts 100 seats configured into 25 benches.
CJ 4DPlex announced today an agreement with Kinepolis to bring the 4DX immersive-seat experience to six additional Kinepolis cinema complexes. Less than one year after the opening of its first 4DX theatres in Antwerp, Brussels, Lomme, Madrid and Valencia, the company has announced six additional 4DX theatres, which include three in Belgium (Kinepolis Hasselt, Ghent and Rocourt), one in Luxembourg (Kirchberg), one in France (Kinepolis Nîmes) and one in Spain (Kinepolis Diversia, Madrid).
Cinépolis USE announced today that its Bay Theatre in Pacific Palisades, California, will reopen this Friday, November 9. The theatre, which was originally designed in 1948 by one of the most prolific American motion pictures theaters architects, S. Charles Lee, will reopen in Palisades Village after being closed for 40 years. The new facility will feature five ultra-lux, customized screening rooms each with over-the-top amenities that cater to one of Southern California’s most coveted communities for families and privacy-seeking celebrities.
CJ 4DPlex has reached new levels of success with more than 20 million worldwide attendees and $250 million at the box office to date in 2018. The company anticipates that the total number of moviegoers who have experienced 4DX since its launch in 2009 will exceed 85 million by year’s end, with the total box office gross surpassing $1 billion.

For the first time in the U.S., D-Box will install motion recliner seats in two full auditoriums. The first installation is slated for November at the Maya Bakersfield Theatre in California. The second installation will start in December at the North Las Vegas Theater and be completed just in time for the highly anticipated holiday blockbuster season.
