The Writers Lab is asking for submissions for its 2021 program for women screenwriters over the age of 40. The Lab is produced by co-founders Elizabeth Kaiden and Nitza Wilon and New York Women in Film & Television, and has been supported by Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and Oprah Winfrey. The Lab will see the emergence of its first completed project in 2021: Alyson Richards’ horror film The Retreat.
Later this month, DPA Microphones co-founder Jens-Jørn Stokholm and research and development manager Ole Moesmann will receive an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Technical Achievement Award for the innovative development of the brand’s high-performance, miniature lavalier microphone technology.
The Hollywood Professional Association Industry Recovery Task Force will explore how CBS/ITV Entertainment’s Love Island USA moved from Fiji to Las Vegas and kept their exacting production and delivery schedule intact in the midst of the Coronavirus upheaval, late in 2020. Sony Electronics has been named a recipient of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ 72nd Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Award. Sony’s OLED reference monitors were recognized by the esteemed organization for their contributions to and impact on mastering quality in the industry. The awards ceremony that will take place in partnership with the National Association of Broadcasters as part of their fall Show on October 10.

The International Union of Cinemas, the body representing European cinema trade associations and operators, has today released preliminary 2020 box office estimates for the territories covered by the organization. At the same time the association said that more government support for cinemas is needed.
