In celebration of Black History Month, Fathom Events will present a special encore screening of Terence Blanchard’s critically acclaimed opera Fire Shut Up in My Bones in cinemas nationwide on Saturday, February 12. The monumental production, which was presented live in cinemas on Saturday, October 23, 2021, as part of The Met: Live in HD series, marked the first opera by a Black composer ever performed by the Met.
Fathom Events will be expanding to more than 1,500 locations nationwide so that more people can participate in the one-day-only event honoring what would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday on Monday, January 17. The film Betty White: A Celebration is a reflection on the beloved actresses’ amazing life and career.
Betty White, who died on December 31, 2021, and was one of America’s most beloved stars, would have turned 100 years old on January 17th. To mark that momentous milestone, Fathom Events planned to celebrate the day with a once-in-a-lifetime event: Betty White: 100 Years Young—A Birthday Celebration. What had once been seen as a joyous occasion will now be a bittersweet remembrance of a life well-lived.
The Event Cinema Association has named two people to its board of directors. They are Katrin Mathe, international event cinema manager for Kinepolis and Laura Correia, vice president film & event cinema, National Amusements. The additions firmly cement the renewed direction for the ECA in 2022, the ten-year anniversary since the association was established. The appointments are part of a particular drive to increase the organization’s visibility, which was started by Grainne Peat, who became ECA’s managing director in 2018.

National CineMedia has entered into a new strategic alliance with NuTime Media, a Black-owned media advertising sales representation company with offices in New York and Chicago, to better serve marketers looking to reach African American and Hispanic audiences. As part of this new initiative, NCM has formed two new specialty cinema advertising networks across the U.S. that directly serve these diverse audiences using the power of cinema.
Platinum-selling electronic recording artist, violinist, and multi-talented entertainer Lindsey Stirling is teaming with distributor Iconic Events to showcase her heartwarming special Lindsey Stirling: Home for the Holidays, as a big-screen theatrical presentation in cinemas across the country. The special will open November 28 and run through the Christmas season.
Screenvision Media has announced a partnership with eSports and gaming production company ESPAT TV. Under the terms of the deal, details of which were not disclosed, ESPAT will produce and distribute gaming-related content across Screenvision’s in-cinema and SV Sports networks. ESPAT TV will create original content including trailers for AAA game titles that will be shown in theatres during the biggest theatrical releases for the remainder of 2021 and into 2022.
