Unique Airbnb Campaign Debuts in Cinemas

Calling it a new frontier in cinema advertising Airbnb, the world’s leading community-driven hospitality company, is taking its Live There campaign to theaters this weekend. The split-screen experience debuted during 3D showings of summer blockbusters Finding Dory, Independence Day: Resurgence, and The Secret Life of Pets in the UK only. Moviegoers will have a first-of-its-kind, immersive experience that contrasts standardized mass tourism with the unique moments of travel and authentic experiences only possible while traveling on Airbnb.

Museum of Flight Screens Space Next

The Museum of Flight, a Smithsonian affiliate, has dedicated its entire June 18 film schedule to premiere Space Next in 4K stereoscopic 3D. The opening was timed to coincide with the NewSpace conference of entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers and policy leaders, held by the Space Frontier Foundation. At two of the premiere screenings, open to the public, Space Next director Luke Ployhar of Afterglow Studios in Minneapolis will introduce the film and show how scenes were created. Ployhar is a seasoned Hollywood filmmaker and effects artist whose credits include Minority Report.

The Christie 6P laser projection at the National Infantry Museum’s Giant Screen Theater in Columbus, Georgia is earning applause from the public, school groups, veterans and active duty service members. Installed by AV industry pioneer D3D Cinema, the two Christie Solaria CP42LH 6P laser projectors enable the theater to show a range of 3D content and Hollywood blockbusters – as well as alternative content and live events – to better align the theater with the museum’s mission of providing guests with an immersive experience of the United States Army Infantry’s valorous history.

National CineMedia Targets Millennials

At the start of National CineMedia’s fifth annual upfront event at the AMC Lincoln Square movie theater on Wednesday, the company’s new CEO, Andy England, posed a rhetorical question: “Why do Millennials love the movies?” The answer, he said, is that “opening weekend for movies are, by definition, culturally relevant. Millennials want to see films as they are released because it puts them in the know. It gives them social currency. Having a point of view on Deadpool or the Jungle Book, or being excited about Bad Moms, is to be part of the narrative or to be woven into the fabric of popular culture.”

Christie Powers Immersive Festival & 360° Dome

Christie will be providing all the projection for Spain’s first permanent dome to showcase 360° and other immersive environments including a second dome dedicated to virtual reality. Held in Madrid, the Immersive Festival Madrid 2016 is running from May 18-21 at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and is free to attend.
