Pixvana Raises $6 Million to Bring VR Video Cloud Production, Delivery Platform to Market

Pixvana, a virtual reality technology startup, has launched today with a $6 million investment led by Madrona Venture Group with participation from Paul Allen's Vulcan Capital, and angel investors. Pixvana is developing a cloud-based technology platform that dramatically improves the immersive video viewing experience for VR and augmented reality applications across a broad set of viewing devices. The company plans to bring it to market in 2016.

Advanced Systems Group Hosts New People Cinema

Advanced Systems Group will welcome presenters from Dolby Laboratories, SuperSphere Productions, and Tippett Studio to the ASG Annual Workshop on December 3, at the New People Cinema at the New People building in San Francisco. Thursday’s workshop will explore high dynamic range and cinematic virtual reality technologies with free presentations beginning at 10 a.m.

Pulse, VTEC Partner on VR Display

Pulse Evolution and VTEC Laboratories have partnered to develop a personal Head Mounted Display player, intended to provide immersive entertainment access for standard virtual reality systems users to unique live events, such as virtual music concerts, multi-player games and other events set in rich VR environments that can be populated by hyper-realistic digital humans from Pulse Evolution.

A Real Headcase

Virtual reality has opened up a wide range of opportunities for innovation and storytelling, both for manufacturers and for the early adopters that are rewriting the book on how to use this new toolset. One of these early adopters is cinematographer Andrew Shulkind, one of the driving forces behind Headcase, which is the name both of a collaboration between filmmakers and a camera. As well as being a successful DP, Shulkind has always enjoyed experimenting with new and unique movie-making technologies, whether it’s lighting, cameras, lenses or workflows. Codex is one of the partners in Headcase and made this interview possible.

Deluxe Services Now Include VR and Immersive Entertainment

Deluxe Entertainment Services today announced a new slate of technology and services to develop content for immersive entertainment and virtual reality experiences. Coinciding with this announcement, Deluxe has recently completed work on Neuro, developed with creative VR studio Kite & Lightning for GE, debuting today at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, California.
