Vox Cinemas to Install Volfoni 3D in First Multiplex at Riyadh Park in Saudi Arabia

Vox Cinemas has selected Volfoni for their 3D hardware systems for the first multiplex at Riyadh Park in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Vox Cinemas was awarded one of the first licenses to operate cinemas in Saudi Arabia and their multiplex at Riyadh Park is the first of its kind in the kingdom.

Supercines Selects Volfoni as Exclusive 3D Technology Provider

Supercines, the largest cinema operator in Ecuador, today announced that it has selected Volfoni as their exclusive provider for their 3D technology requirements. Volfoni partnered with Santa Clara Poltronas, a leading Brazilian cinema system integrator, to supply Supercines with their 3D hardware systems across all their cinema locations in Ecuador.

CanalOlympia Installs Veezi Across Entire Theatre Chain

Vivendi’s CanalOlympia has signed an agreement to roll-out Vista Cinema’s Veezi cinema management system across all their cinema venues. Currently operating nine venues across seven countries, CanalOlympia is the leading network of cinema and live performance venues in Africa. Several additional sites are set to open in the months to come, extending the breadth of the CanalOlympia footprint.The CanalOlympia operation showcases the diversity of African culture and has helped bring cinemas back to countries currently short on entertainment choices and cultural infrastructure.

Éclair, Samsung Partner to Bring Onyx Cinema LED Technology to European Filmmakers

Éclair today announced that, starting in November, it will install a Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen in its facilities in Paris-Vanves. This will make Éclair one of the first to provide professional services specifically tailored for the Onyx Cinema LED – contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, color grading with true zero nit black, and ÉclairColor DCP mastering – to European filmmakers, producers and distributors.

Last summer, Emagine Entertainment showed the first-run movie Ideal Home starring Paul Rudd at its Royal Oak Cinema in Detroit using Nagra’s myCinema technology. “This is the first-time audiences have enjoyed a feature length film leveraging advanced digital compression technology via Nagra-secured myCinema theater premise equipment,” said Jean-Luc Jezouin, Nagra’s senior vice president business development. “The plug-and-play experience of the myCinema solution offers a significant leap in digital cinema distribution technology, alleviating enormous costs experienced with traditional digital cinema prints.”

DCI Has Lost Its Way

The way it’s supposed to work, a cinema should be able to acquire DCI Compliant equipment with the assurance that first release movies would not be withheld for reason of having the wrong gear. With the recent release of its DCI Memorandum Regarding Direct View Displays, it is no longer clear where DCI is heading.
