The Batman Delivers Strong Box Office Numbers for AMC

Last weekend AMC Theatres experienced its third-highest attended weekend since movie theatres reopened in the summer of 2020. More than four million tickets were sold globally at AMC locations Thursday through Sunday, based on the strength of the successful opening weekend of The Batman from Warner Bros. and DC. This outpaces the year-over-year attendance for the same weekend in both 2019 and 2020.

The Batman Playing Worldwide in ScreenX

CJ 4DPlex and Warner Bros. Pictures, have announced that The Batman is now playing in the immersive 270-degree panoramic ScreenX for the first time in cinemas worldwide. The iconic DC Superhero has never been seen like this in the cinema before. ScreenX will expand specially selected sequences of the film onto the left and right-side walls of the auditorium, surrounding audiences with extended imagery which naturally fills their peripheral vision.

Unilumin Selects Macroblock LED Cinema Screen Display Drivers

After reviewing several other options, Chinese LED cinema screen manufacturer Unilumin has selected Macroblock’s MBI5850 as its display driver. The MBI5850 features 16-bit grayscale with smooth low grayscale performance, and a 3,840Hz visual refresh rate that the company says is designed for high-resolution LED displays.

Göteborg Fundraising for Ukrainian Children

In support of Ukraine, the Göteborg Film Festival is teaming up with Story, Draken Film and Folkets Bio to host screenings of Simon Lereng Wilmont's festival winner A House made of Splinters, set in a children's home in Eastern Ukraine. The screenings will take place in cinemas throughout Sweden and online via Göteborg Film Festival’s streaming service, Draken Film. All money raised from the screenings will go in full to the organization Voices of Children in Ukraine.

UNIC Stands with Ukranian Exhibitors and with the Ukranian People

The Union Internationale des Cinémas/International Union of Cinemas, the trade body representing the interests of cinema operators across 39 European territories, has today issued a statement expressing its solidarity not just with Ukrainian exhibitors but also the Ukrainian people as they look to repel the attack on their country by Russian forces. The statement, issued on behalf of UNIC’s board of directors, reads as follows:
