In response to what they say has been impressive guest reaction and the overwhelming success of Dolby Cinema at AMC in its first full year, Dolby Laboratories and AMC Theatres today announced plans to accelerate Dolby Cinema at AMC installations to 100 operational sites by the end of 2017, seven years ahead of the originally announced schedule. The original agreement, reached in 2015, was for 100 auditoriums over a 10-year deployment.
Seven new 4DX immersive seating auditoriums have opened in Japan through partnerships between CJ CGV subsidiary CJ 4DPlex, Aeon Cinemas, United Cinemas and 109 Cinemas. 4DX recently released two highly anticipated Japanese titles, One Piece Film Gold and Shin Godzilla and received positive responses in Japanese box office. For the first screening weekend, One Piece Film Gold and Shin Godzilla represented 75 percent and 59 percent occupancy rate, respectively.
Barco partner Clover Solutions signed a multi-million deal with Maze for the installation of up to 100 Barco digital cinema projectors across Myanmar. The agreement is part of an ambitious project to revitalize Myanmar’s film industry. In the course of two years, 100 new cinemas will be built across the country

Vista Entertainment Solutions has signed an agreement with the Kuwait National Cinema Company to install cinema management software in KNCCtheaters. KNCC is the largest cinema operator in Kuwait currently operating 11 cinemas totalling 54 screens and with plans to open additional sites over the coming year.

The Association of Moving Image Archivists and Alamo Drafthouse, in partnership with The Film Foundation, will host a three-day film projection workshop offering expert-led training for managers, curators and projectionists in the proper presenting of 35mm film in theaters. Egypt’s largest multiplex, Galaxy Festival City Cinemas, Cairo, is installing the Barco Escape premium theater experience – a first in the Middle East. The cinema exhibitor will premiere the three-screen, panoramic Escape format July 27 with one of the movie industry’s most anticipated summer films, Star Trek Beyond.
