Cinionic Expands Deal with CJ CGV Cinemas

Cinionic, the Barco, CGS, and ALPD cinema joint venture, has expanded its exclusive relationship with South Korean-based exhibitor CJ CGV Cinemas to power more theatres with its projection systems. Under the new agreement, Cinionic will provide a technology mix that includes Barco Alchemy ICMP-X media servers and Barco projection for all new CJ CGV theatres over the next two years as the circuit pursues its ambitious growth strategy.

MacGillivray Freeman Partners with MetaMedia

MacGillivray Freeman Films has announced a partnership with MetaMedia to bring educational films to conventional commercial theatres and drive-ins across the U.S. and Canada for educational and group screenings. A number of MacGillivray Freeman’s films will be shown at theatres throughout North America, including Into America’s Wild, America’s Musical Journey and Great Bear Rainforest, among others.

Kinepolis Reopening in Several Countries

After almost seven months of being closed, all French Kinepolis cinemas are reopening their doors, the company announced today. The new Kinepolis complex in Metz, located in the Waves commercial center, will also be welcoming visitors for the first time today. Belgian cinemas will reopen, if all goes well, June 9, as announced by the Belgian government last week. And cinemas in the Netherlands can also count on opening for business again in June, although the exact date still depends on how the coronavirus curves evolve.

Trafalgar Stays Agile and Nimble

As director of distribution at Picturehouse Entertainment Marc Allenby helped bring the Metropolitan Opera and Bolshoi Ballet to cinemas in the UK and launched both NTLive and RSC Live. In 2017 he helped facilitate the management buyout that re-established the company with its experienced team as Trafalgar Releasing, where today he is CEO. In 2018 he established offices in the United States, a move he sees as “a vital part of the companies’ future plans and growth.” Headquartered in London, Trafalgar Releasing today also has offices in New York and Denver. Before the pandemic the company experienced significant growth and won numerous accolades including most recently the largest ever event cinema release with BTS’ Burn the Stage: The Movie. Despite the pandemic Trafalgar was moderately successful in 2020.

National CineMedia Announces First Quarter Fiscal Results

National CineMedia today announced consolidated results for the fiscal first quarter ended April 1. During the first quarter the company continued to manage its liquidity position through various cost-control measures and the issuance of a new $50 million term loan in March. With the funding of this additional debt, NCM’s cash balance as of April 1 was $139.4 million, an increase of $15.5 million as compared to the balance as of December 31. Including the $52.8 million, the company had $192.2 million of cash, cash equivalents and investments as of April 1.

Ceylon Theatres Get Sound Makeover

Ceylon Theatres is a Sri Lankan theatre chain with an 85-year history that currently operates six locations throughout the country. The latest location is a three-screen facility in Dematagoda, which also houses a KFC restaurant and Food City supermarket. In order to ensure an immersive cinematic experience with clear and balanced audio quality for moviegoers, Ceylon Theatres Regal Cinema Dematagoda required new sound systems for all three screens.
