CMX Cinemas Miami Upgrades to Laser

CMX Cinemas has selected Cinionic to upgrade its flagship Dolphin 19 location in Miami, Florida, with its laser light upgrade projection technology. CMX, a wholly owned subsidy of eighth largest global cinema circuit Cinemex, is a leading US exhibitor with more than 350 screens. As part of the CMX Dolphin 19 revitalization, Cinionic will outfit all the theatre’s legacy Barco digital projectors with Laser Light Upgrades. The laser presentation upgrades at CMX Dolphin 19 are expected to complete this month.

2021 Global Box Office Could Top $20 Billion, Gower Street Predicts

Gower Street Analytics is predicting that the global box office will reach $20.2 billion in 2021. The London-based global film tech company, which specializes in predictive box office for the distribution and exhibition sectors via its Forecast service, calculated the end-of-year estimate following its assessment that global box office had matched year-end 2020 results by the close of August.

Box Office Recovery Continues

August posted another pandemic-era high at the international box office and the second biggest month of global box office since the pandemic began, according to the latest report from Gower Street Analytics, London. The month delivered a $2 billion global box office, up on July’s $1.9 billion and only lagging February’s $2.3 billion, which was fueled by a record box office month in China. The international market (excluding China) contributed $1.11 billion to the August total, beating its previous pandemic-era high, recorded the prior month, of $960 million.

GDC Unveils New Audio Processing Features in the SR-1000 IMB

GDC Technology Limited has unveiled two built-in audio processing features of its SR-1000 integrated media block. Users of SR-1000 now have the option to bring immersive audio experience to their screens with an upgrade to 16-channel DTS:X immersive sound. Additionally, a new built-in 16-channel cinema audio processor is made available to replace an external cinema audio processor for the 16-channel DTS:X setup.

Cinity Gaining Market Share in China

According to industry statistics, premium large format screen installations have seen an increase of almost 19 percent year over year. They set a record in 2019, when 734 screens were installed, a 65 percent increase over 2018. As theatres slowly reopen worldwide following lockdowns due to COVID-19, the pace of adoption is expected to resume. Owned by the China Film Group and Huaxia Film Distribution, Cinity uses premium large format laser projection, immersive sound, and ultra-high frame rate capability. Today, with 57 installations and an almost equal number on tap in cities across China, Cinity enjoys cooperative agreements with many major Hollywood and Chinese studios. The system can be viewed at the Harmony Gold Preview House in West Hollywood, where filmmakers can also screen their latest projects at the industry’s highest frame rate.
