DCDC Reducing Prices

The Digital Cinema Distribution Coalition, the world’s largest cinema satellite delivery network announced today that it will be reducing prices and lowering minimum commitments on many of its services effective January 1. The company said the sweeping pricing reductions will affect feature film, live, and event delivery for both the exhibitor and content provider communities.

ECA Adds Mathe and Correia to Board of Directors

The Event Cinema Association has named two people to its board of directors. They are Katrin Mathe, international event cinema manager for Kinepolis and Laura Correia, vice president film & event cinema, National Amusements. The additions firmly cement the renewed direction for the ECA in 2022, the ten-year anniversary since the association was established. The appointments are part of a particular drive to increase the organization’s visibility, which was started by Grainne Peat, who became ECA’s managing director in 2018.

AMC Acquires Theatres in Chicago and Los Angeles

AMC Theatres plans to reopen theatres in the Los Angeles and Chicago markets. AMC is expected to begin operations at AMC Northridge Fashion Center 10, formally a Pacific theatre, in Northridge, California in the spring. AMC further also expects to begin operations at AMC Chicago 14, formally an Arclight location in in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, under a new name in spring.

PVR Cinemas Installs Ion Technology to Combat Airborne Viruses

PVR Cinemas has installed new ion technology that neutralizes 99.9 percent of airborne viruses. The negative ion generator devices are installed at key locations inside cinemas including the auditoriums where the guests spend the maximum time. PVR says it is the first and only cinema chain in the world to deploy this technology.

MetaMedia Expands Thanks to HCL Technologies Partnership

Upon securing a long-term partnership agreement with the leading global technology company HCL Technologies, MetaMedia, the global, cloud-based distribution platform for cinemas, drive-ins, and other out-of-home venues, has expanded its entertainment network to more than 3,000 screens across the U.S. and Canada, covering all the top 50 cities.

Report Sees Improving Box Office

And, after a much stronger box office year with exhibitors, distributors, and audiences becoming more comfortable in a COVID-world, Gower Street's first global box office prediction for 2022 suggests a significant improvement over 2021.
