Panasonic has unveiled a 4K camera/recorder, VariCam 35 that incorporates a newly developed super 35mm MOS image sensor and the company’s AVC-ULTRA family of video codecs. The new camera handles multiple formats including 4K, UHD, 2K and HD and is designed for high-end filmmaking, and commercials and episodic production as well as live 4K events.
LipSync provided equity investment and full post services on Starred Up, the award-winning film starring Jack O’Connell, Ben Mendelsohn and Rupert Friend, telling the story of a troubled and violent teen who meets his father in prison. The film, produced by Sigma Films, will open in the UK on March 21.

International music company, Audio Network is delighted to announce that Philip Sheppard is to perform at the Audio Network sponsored event The Austin Jump-Off on March 12 during South By Southwest, the largest music, film and interactive conference in the world. Sheppard is a prolific film and theatre composer, virtuoso cellist and pioneer of the electric cello. The event is in collaboration with Black Magnetic Records (owned by internationally renowned music supervisor PJ Bloom), The Cellar Music, a premier independent publishing and marketing company and CandyShop Management, a leading independent artist management firm.
Christie today announced that it will demonstrate its most advanced laser projection architecture and Dolby 3D in the Christie Innovation Theaters in Las Vegas during CinemaCon 2014 March 24-27 and the National Association of Broadcasters NAB Show April 5-10. Last August Christie became the first to receive a US FDA approval of variance allowing the sale and installation of laser projectors in movie theaters and installed the world’s first commercial laser projection system at the Seattle Cinerama Theatre.
Hoyts Chile, part of Grupo Chilefilms, will install Christie digital cinema technology in its 127 35mm theaters distributed across 23 complexes throughout the country. The technologies include Christie Solaria Series projectors, the Christie Avias-TMS theatre management system and select Christie Vive Audio cinema sound systems.
When it came time for Rob Roy Cesar to post his new romantic comedy Pacoima Can Wait he realized there were problems with the audio. Uncertain there was anything that could be done to make the audio sound better, Cesar brought his film to AlphaDogs in Burbank upon the recommendation of a fellow film composer.
The highly anticipated feature film Godzilla, directed by Gareth Edwards, will be mixed and released in the Dolby Atmos cinema sound platform. The film, from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, will arrive in U.S. theatres on May 16.
