Cinionic Extends its Laser Ecosystem

Last month Cinionic announced the debut of its new cinema screen designed for laser-powered auditoriums. The company said the Cinionic Laser Screen 2.4 amplifies the power of laser projection through optimized efficiency and enhanced onscreen movie presentation. AMC Theatres is set to be the first exhibitor to receive the new screens, with nearly two dozen installs planned this year. Cinionic Laser Screen 2.4 is now available in the U.S. and Mexico, with a global rollout planned over the next few months. I recently spoke via email Carl Rijsbrack, Cinionic’s chief marketing officer and head of innovation, to learn about the development of the screen and what plans the company has for future products.

Answering Immersive Audio Bitstream Questions

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is back for its second season on HBO, pushing deeper into the 1980s as it continues to recount the on- and off-court stories surrounding the Showtime era of the Los Angeles Lakers. After sharing cinematography duties with Mihai Malaimare Jr. on Season 1, Todd Banhazl, ASC returned for Season 2, now joined by fellow cinematographers John Matysiak, Ricardo Diaz and Darran Tiernan, ISC.

Shining a Light on Watergate

Created by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck and directed by David Mandel, the five-part miniseries White House Plumbers shines a fresh light on the real-life comedy of errors that burst out of the infamous Watergate scandal. Light Iron provided dailies and final color for the project, which reteamed cinematographer Steven Meizler and supervising colorist Ian Vertovec.

Making the VR Film Ajax All Powerful

Cinematographer Lawrence Sher Talks about Color

Lawrence Sher, ASC, is an American cinematographer and film director best known for his work on Joker (2019), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), War Dogs (2016), The Hangover (2009) and Garden State (2004). He has just completed filming Joker: Folie a deux – the follow up to the 2019 film which comes out in 2024. Last month he was appointed as the president of the 2023 FilmLight Color Awards jury. The winners of the award will be announced in November at EnergaCamerImage. Sher recently spoke with Digital Cinema Report via email about cinematography, about the role of color in the filmmaking process and about the color awards themselves. Here is that conversation.
