In its latest project for Marvel Studios, Rising Sun Pictures delivered nearly 300 visual effects shots for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. RSP’s work centered on the creation of a vast, computer-generated environment representing a village called Ta Lo and its jungle environs. In the process the company developed a novel technique for facial replacement using artificial intelligence.

Creating Wenwu’s Compound

In Marvel Studios’ latest feature film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the film’s antagonist Wenwu (Tony Leung) is unlike most of the villains seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The ancient character operates out of a remote fortress that has existed for centuries, and over the years, has grown and changed, reflecting his loves and losses. It’s an ever changing and fluid structure, created and edited by Marvel Studios longtime collaborator, Oscar-winning visual effects studio Digital Domain. Rising Sun Delivers for Candyman

Rising Sun Pictures recreated Chicago’s iconic Cabrini-Green housing project, exactly as it appeared in 1992, for Candyman, the new horror film from director Nia DaCosta, producer Jordan Peele and MGM. Artists from the studio also provided the film’s title character with his trademark hook as part of a package of more than 100 intricately detailed visual effects shots that appear throughout the film.

Making Birds of Paradise

Produced for Amazon Studios, the feature film Birds of Paradise tells the story of two girls at an elite Parisian ballet academy that have their bond and bodies tested as they compete for a contract to join the company of the Opéra National de Paris. The film was directed by Sarah Adina Smith, who not only adapted the A.K. Small novel for the screenplay, but also happens to be director of photography Shaheen Seth’s wife.

Production Thriving in Vilnius, Lithuania

Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is rapidly becoming a crucial film production location in the region, officials there say, favored by both local and international production companies. The main reasons for the attraction are the Lithuanian Film Tax Incentive and the availability of high-level film professionals. Although the pandemic partially slowed down projects, the film industry in the city has been quickly restored, and 13 foreign feature films have already been shot in Vilnius this year.
