In October 1948, Jesse Brown became the first African American to complete the U.S. Navy’s flight training program and received his Naval Aviator Badge. The feature Devotion, directed by J.D. Dillard and based on the bestselling book by Adam Makos, recounts the true story of Brown’s distinguished service, focusing on the year 1950, at the onset of the Korean War, when he and his fellow pilots in Fighter Squadron 32 deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Leyte, first to the Mediterranean Sea and then to the East Sea, off the coast of North Korea.

The Challenges of Remote Shooting

When line producer Craig Fleming started looking at locations to film Cea Sunrise Person’s autobiographical book North of Normal, he knew it had to be a remote location. Once Fleming found the ideal location, he knew that rural British Columbia would play a starring role. But the beautiful location presented a challenge: at first it appeared that its remoteness meant the crew couldn’t connect with the outside world.

European Box Office to Exceed €5.6 Billion

The International Union of Cinemas, representing European cinema trade associations and operators, has today released preliminary estimates for 2022 box office and admissions across the territories it covers. UNIC’s overview represents the first wide-ranging assessment of European cinema’s performance last year. Detailed final data for each UNIC territory will be released in Spring 2023.

POV Acquires Children of the Mist

POV has acquired the feature documentary, Children of the Mist, directed by Vietnamese filmmaker Hà Lệ Diễm and produced by Trần Phương Thảo. Children of the Mist delves into the tradition of bride kidnapping still practiced by the Hmong, one of Vietnam’s largest ethnic groups. Diễm's directorial feature-length debut, is a tender portrait of a community on the cusp between tradition and modernity, and one girl tragically stuck in the middle.

By Water an America ReFramed First

The film By Water, directed by Iyabo Kwayana, is an official selection of the Animation Short Film Program at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. By Water, will also be the first animated experimental film to appear on America ReFramed. The short film follows an unlikely hero's journey into his own memories and becomes a vehicle for reconciliation and healing for himself and his sibling.

New Ant-Man Releasing in 4DX, ScreenX

Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will debut on February 17 in the visually immersive formats from CJ 4Dplex including 270-degree panoramic ScreenX theatres and the multi-sensory 4DX theatres. The film is the official kick off for phase five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and tickets for the anticipated adventure are on sale now.
