Father and son re-recording mixers Michael and Christian Minkler have joined the growing roster of sound talent at Sony Pictures Post Production Services. The Minklers, who mixed the current Columbia Pictures release Concussion in Sony Pictures’ Burt Lancaster Theatre, have been working at the studio since last year, but are now on a formal basis. The pair previously mixed Insurgent on the Sony lot and are currently collaborating on The Hateful Eight.
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers have announced that the SMPTE Board of Governors has formally approved the creation of the SMPTE U.K. Region and appointed Bruce Devlin, chief media scientist at Dalet, to serve as its first governor.
The Motion Picture Sound Editors have elected Tom McCarthy as president. McCarthy is an Academy Award- and BAFTA Award-winning sound supervisor and longtime industry executive. He currently serves as executive vice president post-production facilities at Sony Pictures Studios. He succeeds Frank Morrone.
Cooke Optics has appointed Carey Duffy director of sales – Europe, effective January 4, 2016. Based in the UK, Duffy will take over the European sales territory from director of sales, Thomas Greiser, who takes on more responsibility for North and South America as well as covering South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Award-winning visual effects studio FuseFX has brought on veteran VFX producer Andrea D’Amico. D’Amico arrives with more than 25 years of experience in visual effects, including tenures at Eden FX, Digital Domain, RIOT, P.O.P. and CIS Hollywood. Most recently, she served as VFX producer at MPC Montreal, on Fox’s Victor Frankenstein.
Erika W. Burton has joined Digital Domain as executive vice president/general manager. Burton joins the team working on long-term company goals and new initiatives, with her primary focus on production, sales and marketing. She will report to O.D Welch, president, Digital Domain.
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has hired Howard Lukk as the Society's new director of standards. Over the coming 12 months, Lukk will transition into the position that has been held by Peter Symes for the past eight years. Symes will retire at the end of 2016.

An accomplished sales manager with over 18-years experience of developing complex I.T. projects, along with his vast background in electronic engineering and extensive knowledge of the European and Latin American market, makes him the perfect fit for SGO. He is also an impressive linguist, with proficiency in fluent Spanish, English and Portuguese.
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has elected its new officers and governors for the 2016-2017 term. "The elections bring the board an impressive array of industry leaders, all with a history of contributing valuable expertise and extraordinary energy to SMPTE events and standards work," said SMPTE past president Wendy Aylsworth, who served as nominating committee chair.
