The award-winning studio Laika is expanding its live action slate with an original film written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts (Dune, Passengers, Doctor Strange), who makes his directorial debut with this sci-fi thriller. Will Mauricette began working on his short film Spare Me in the summer of 2022, just before his junior year at Ringling College of Art and Design. It has since been selected for entry to more than 20 film festivals and earned a number of awards—including 2024 Best Picture from the Mometu College Shorts Film Festival in Los Angeles.
