New Industry Group Formed to Mentor Next Generation of Media Pros

A coalition of companies and organizations from across the media and entertainment industry, EIPMA is dedicated to nurturing the industry’s next generation of talent. It plans to partner with high schools, universities and entertainment industry organizations to increase student awareness for career opportunities in the entertainment industry through job fairs, speaker programs, webinars and other events. It will also connect aspiring professionals with mentoring and career counseling programs.

Powster Launches Trailered App for Movie Searches

Los Angeles creative studio Powster has launched Trailered, a new web-app search tool for all films showing in theatres nationwide. With Trailered, moviegoers can instantly see trailers, showtimes and purchase tickets for films currently playing at nearby cinemas through one simple online access point.

A coalition of leading trade and professional groups has formed a non-profit organization to provide mentoring services to young people seeking behind-the-scenes careers in the media and entertainment industry. The Entertainment Industry Professionals Mentoring Alliance, or EIPMA, plans to nurture the industry’s next generation of talent by offering expert guidance to high school and college students, military veterans and others seeking to launch their careers, and by hosting job fairs, panel discussions and other public events.

Rod Archer Joins QSC as Product Manager, Cinema

Industry veteran Rod Archer has joined QSC Cinema as product manager. In his new role, Archer will be primarily responsible for product strategy and execution for Q-SYS for Cinema, Cinema Media Server, Control and Accessibility Product categories. Archer brings a rich career of product development experience, with more than 30 years of executive product development roles.

Éclair Cinema SAS Placed in Receivership

Ymagis Group has asked the Commercial Court of Nanterre to place one of the French subsidiaries of its Éclair business unit, Éclair Cinema SAS, in receivership given the performance of its activities in post-production and the restoration of cinematographic and audio-visual works. Éclair Cinema represented 5.5 percent of Ymagis Group’s revenue for the first half of 2018 and almost all losses recorded over this same period. In 2017, the subsidiary generated revenue totaling €12.4 million.

England Steps Down at NCM; Marks Named Interim CEO

National CineMedia announced today that Andrew J. England has stepped down as chief executive officer and a member of the company’s board of directors and that the company’s president, Clifford E. Marks, has been appointed to the additional role of Interim chief executive officer.

HPA Tech Retreat 2019 Issues Call for Proposals

The Hollywood Professional Association has issued the call for proposals for the 2019 HPA Tech Retreat, which includes Tech Retreat Extra, the Supersession, breakfast roundtables, an Innovation Zone, and the main conference. Also open now are submissions for the breakfast roundtables. Now in its 24th year, the 2019 HPA Tech Retreat will take place February 11-15, 2019 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, California.

Michigan Library to Receive Jonathan Demme Archives

The University of Michigan Library will welcome the archive of the late award-winning director, producer and screenwriter Jonathan Demme. The donation from the Demme family was announced last week at the Traverse City Film Festival ahead of a special screening of Swimming to Cambodia, a 1987 film directed by Demme.

Deluxe New York Names Kearney Vice President of Sales

Deluxe has named Barbara Jean Kearney vice president of sales for its New York post production office. Kearney joins Deluxe New York from Technicolor Postworks, where she led feature sales since 2012.
