AFI Tech Showcase to be held November 11-14

The American Film Institute’s Tech Showcase for AFI Fest 2017 will include a selection of 360-degree, virtual reality, augmented reality and immersive short film experiences representing a cross-section of what's currently possible in this new cinematic medium. The showcase will be on display November 11–14 at The Hollywood Roosevelt, in the Academy Room and Johnny Grant Suite.

Eldridge Industries Acquires Controlling Interest in Film Expo Group

Eldridge Industries, which operates a portfolio of diversified businesses across several different industries, has acquired a controlling interest in Film Expo Group, producer of the successful film-industry trade shows CineEurope, CineAsia, and ShowEast, and publisher of Film Journal International. Previously a part of Mediabistro Holdings, which is also controlled by Eldridge Industries, Film Expo Group will now operate independently.

SMPTE Symposium to Explore Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning

The Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers has announced the program for its 2017 Symposium: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Digital Media Creation: The Promise, the Reality, and the (Scary?) Future. The October 23 event, which will take place at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California, immediately precedes the SMPTE 2017 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition.

IBC’s Big Screen to Explore the Art, Science and Business of Cinema

This year’s IBC Big Screen program will take place in a specially built auditorium designed to IBC’s specifications and featuring the very latest in cinema technology, including Dolby Vision imaging and Dolby Atmos immersive sound. The four-day program will examine the latest topics, themes, and insights surrounding the art, science, and business of cinema, from capture through to exhibition. As well as being the home of the Big Screen program, the auditorium will screen in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, Baby Driver, the acclaimed Edgar Wright feature from 2017.

Harklets Return to CineEurope 2017

Harkness Screens has announced the forthcoming release of its animated sequel starring its storytelling characters, the Harklets. Designed to help educate and inform the movie industry in a simple and fun way, the Harklets return at CineEurope 2017 in their second animated adventure tackling a dirty screen in need or urgent attention.
