Hoax Films Explores New Territory with Experiential Website

Kevin Xu, CEO of Mebo International believes he has come up with a novel way to introduce audience to the achievements of organ regeneration science. Visitors to the California-based company’s campus website (www.regeneration2013.com) find themselves in a computer-generated floating city that’s home to a towering library, a giant rotating sphere and other iconic wonders. Visitors can choose to tour the city on foot or from the seat of a translucent shuttlecraft while a narrator describes “a revolution in science that will change our lives.”

Ray Dolby, Randy Thom to be honored at MPSE Golden Reel Awards

The Motion Picture Sound Editors will include a special tribute to the late American inventor Ray Dolby, recognized around the world for developing groundbreaking audio technologies, during its 61st MPSE Golden Reel Awards February 16 in Los Angeles. Also at the ceremony George Lucas will present the 2014 MPSE Career Achievement Award to Randy Thom, director of sound design at Skywalker Sound.

The Boy and His Robot First Film to use iPi Soft Motion Capture

iPi Soft’s markerless iPi Motion Capture technology was used to capture all the motion in the live-action mecha feature film The Boy and His Robot. Directed by Rich Ho, founder of Singapore-based Richmanclub Studios, the film marks the first time iPi Motion Capture’s six Sony PS Eye gaming webcams set up was used for main actors and robot action, proprietary crowd simulation and more.

Fraunhofer and Blackmagic Design Partner on EasyDCP

ASG to Host Technology Happy Hours in Pacific Northwest

Advanced Systems Group will host two Technology Trending Happy Hours, sponsored by Quantum and Adobe, for video professionals in the Pacific Northwest. The first event will be February 12 at Rock Bottom Brewery in Bellevue, Washington and the second will be February 13 at Rock Bottom Brewery in Portland, Oregon. Spider-Man 2 Declares Truce in Sound Format War

Spidey has decided to call a truce in the cinema sound format war. Sony Pictures Entertainment is teaming with Dolby and Barco to mix The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in both Auro 11.1 and Dolby Atmos cinema sound. The movie will be released in theaters internationally beginning April 16 and domestically on May 2. The move will no doubt increase the number of movie theatres available to show the movie.
