The Visual Effects Society goes to great lengths to ensure that hundreds of entries are qualified and vetted as part of a submission process with seemingly countless moving parts. Technicolor PostWorks Finishes a Dozen Films for Sundance

Technicolor PostWorks New York assisted in the completion of a dozen films screening at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Projects included a mix of highly anticipated narrative films from both established filmmakers and emerging artists. Services ranged from dailies processing, offline systems rentals, editorial finishing and color grading to sound editorial and mixing. The Festival will be held January 21-31 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Sundance and Ogden, Utah.

Warner Bros. Names Ziehl Senior VP, Public Affairs, Strategic Initiatives

Barry Ziehl has been named senior vice president, public affairs and strategic initiatives for Warner Bros. Entertainment, it was announced by Dee Dee Myers, executive vice president, worldwide corporate communications and public affairs, Warner Bros. Ziehl, who currently oversees worldwide public relations and marketing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will assume his new responsibilities in the coming weeks and report directly to Myers.

Making the Most of Sound

As with most independent films, budgets for the short film The Chain were minimal, which meant that sound editor and mixer Michael Gross needed to make the most of the audio he had from the set. iZotope’s RX suite of intelligent repair and enhancement modules enabled Gross to clean up production dialogue to a point where very little automatic dialogue replacement was required. For an independent film on a limited budget, this represented a huge savings in time and effort for both cast and crew.

ASC Announces 2016 Outstanding Achievement Nominees

The nominees in the theatrical release category of the 30th Annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for Outstanding Achievement are Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC for Sicario, Janusz Kaminski for Bridge of Spies, Ed Lachman, ASC for Carol, EmmanuelLubezki, ASC, AMC for The Revenant and John Seale, ASC, ACS for Mad Max: Fury Road. The winner will be revealed on February 14 during the ASC Awards gala at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
