AAM Supporting Sundance 2017

Arts Alliance Media is providing theatre management system software and support to the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. For the duration of the Festival, running in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, Utah, from January 19-29, Sundance Institute will deploy AAM’s Screenwriter TMS at six Sundance Film Festival screening locations, where it will enable staff to schedule content and monitor all screens from one easy to use interface.

A Different Look for Nordic Noir

When cinematographer Johan-Fredrik Bødtker, FNF was selected to shoot the forthcoming Norwegian drama series, Valkyrien, he knew what look he wanted. “I wanted the series to feel clean and contemporary but move away from the typical Nordic noir look. It was also very important to me that we could capture the details and mood on all of the different sets, especially the dark and dirty ones,” said Bødtker. “I needed a glass that was sharp, but not too sharp, that would have the right fall off and bokeh, and that would not flare or ghost as soon as the camera was pointed at a light source.”

Rooftop Films Awards Filmmaker Grants

Rooftop Films has awarded sixteen cash and service grants to alumni filmmakers, including The Rooftop Filmmakers’ Fund Garbo NYC Feature Film Grants, which were awarded to directors Robert Greene and Kirsten Johnson. Greene will receive a monetary grant of $15,000 to help finish his new film, Bisbee ‘17, and Johnson will receive a $10,000 grant to support her film, Deadpan.

Sony Pictures Announces Emoji Agreement

The Emoji Company and Sony Pictures Animation today announced that they have entered into a licensing agreement with regard to emoji company’s registered emoji trademark. The agreement covers the use of the term emoji in connection with SPA’s worldwide merchandising program for SPA's upcoming comedy feature The Emoji Movie, coming to theatres August 11.

Creating an ACES Workflow

Award-winning cinematographer Theo Van De Sande ASC was an early supporter of the Academy Color Encoding System, using version 0.2.2 on civil war drama Deliverance Creek in 2013, which was nominated for the ASC Award for Television. Since then he has been a staunch supporter, using ACES on numerous TV shows and pilots. When he was offered the chance to shoot Bad Santa 2 for Miramax, he turned again to ACES for his color-processing pipeline.

Rising Sun Nominated for VES Award

Rising Sun Pictures has been nominated for Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal Feature in the Visual Effects Society’s 15th Annual VES Awards. The nomination comes for the studio’s work on the Quicksilver Extraction sequence from the 20th Century Fox film X-Men: Apocalypse. Nominees include Alana Newell and compositors Jess Burnheim, Andy Peel and Matthew Shaw.

Digital Theatre’s Education Mission

Digital Theatre’s recording of the live production of Frantic Assembly and State Theatre Company South Australia’s acclaimed performance of Things I Know To Be True by Andrew Bovell will be available to Digital Theatre’s worldwide education audience from February 22. This will be the second Frantic Assembly production (following Lovesong) to appear on Digital Theatre’s education platform, DT+.
