Iraqi Filmmaker Will Not Attend Festival

Hussein Hassan, the director of the award-winning Iraqi film Reseba – The Dark Wind, has withdrawn his visa application to the United States Consulate for clearance to attend the North American premiere of his film at the 34th edition of Miami Dade College's Miami Film Festival. Festival director Jaie Laplante said the Festival will proceed with the screening of Reseba – The Dark Wind as scheduled, but with a deep sense of loss and disappointment.

Major Cineplex Installs Christie Laser Projection

Major Cineplex, the largest cinema operator in Thailand, has chosen Christie’s laser projection system for its flagship auditorium, Paragon Cineplex. Located on the fifth floor of the Siam Paragon shopping mall in the heart of the city, Paragon Cineplex comprises 16 screens and 5,000 seats, and is well known as Thailand's largest cineplex. With this installation, Major Cineplex will be the first exhibitor in Thailand to deploy Christie’s pinnacle RGB laser projection system.

La La Land Releases in EclairColor in France

Ymagis Group today announced the EclairColor release of Liongate’s La La Land, which opens in cinemas across France January 25. Distributed by SND - M6 Group and directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, will be available exclusively in EclairColor in the following cinemas: Gaumont Champs-Elysées (Paris, 8th arrondissement), Pathé Wepler (Paris, 18th arrondissement), Les Confluences (Varenne-sur-Seine) and Le Sirius (Le Havre).

Mars Cinema Signs with Sony

Turkey’s Mars Cinema Group is installing Sony 4K Digital Cinema technology in eight theatres across the country. A total of 69 screens will be upgraded over the next year. The first theatre to be upgraded will be Çorum AHL Park in January, followed by Vadi Istanbul and Emaar Square to be opened in March. South Korea’s CJ-CGV, acquired Mars Cinema last year, adding Turkey’s biggest cinema chain to its global network.
