CGV, the largest multiplex cinema chain in South Korea, has acquired 94 Christie RGB pure laser cinema projectors, which will be installed in CGV’s multiplexes across South Korea and will replace its aging fleet of lamp-based Series 1 cinema projectors.
European cinema exhibitor services provider CinemaNext, today announced the completion of its first fourth generation laser-powered 4K RGB projection system installation at the Neocine cinema in the Thader shopping mall in Murcia, Spain. The SP4K-25 Barco projector with Alchemy server setup at Neocine marks a European first by CinemaNext and its Valencia-based services center since Cinionic began selling the new Barco series 4 platform in April.
Studio Movie Grill will open a flagship theater in Glendale, California by the end of the year. The in-theatre dining chain will now serve seven communities across California, including Monrovia, Simi Valley, Downey, Redlands, Rocklin and Bakersfield. SMG founder and CEO Brian Schultz made the announcement.
Warner Bros. Pictures, announced today the release of New Line Cinema’s IT Chapter Two in three immersive cinema technologies: the multi-sensory 4DX format, the heightened 4DX Extreme (available in select theaters and territories) and the panoramic, 270-degree ScreenX. When the film is released globally on September 6 audiences worldwide will be able to take in the highly anticipated horror franchise finale in the auditoriums of 4DX and ScreenX.
Later this month Houston based dine-in-theatre chain Star Cinema Grill will open its newest location in Spring, Texas. The new theatre will feature Sony’s 4K laser projectors in all 12 auditoriums.
Cineplex has opened Canada’s second CJ 4DPlex 4DX auditorium in Calgary, Alberta. The multi-sensory experience debuted at Scotiabank Theatre Chinook with Universal Pictures’ action-packed film, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
The Chinese action film The Bravest was released at 48 frames per second on Pixelworks’ TrueCut platform. This is the fourth film to be released in high frame rate in China using the TrueCut platform, and a look into the cinematic opportunities to come for filmmakers using this video platform.
The International Cinema Technology Association has presented Christie Digital Systems with its Teddy Award as Manufacturer of the Year. The award is voted on by active members of the ICTA and presented annually to the ICTA manufacturer which “most closely exemplifies the progressive principals of product development and provides the dealers with service and up-to-date technical and sales information, while supporting the status of its product without qualification.”
Cinema Sunshine has installed Christie RealLaser projectors and Vive Audio in its new flagship cinema complex in Tokyo. Known as Grand Cinema Sunshine, the luxuriously furnished multiplex located in the commercial and entertainment district of Ikebukuro is the first in Japan to have all 12 auditoriums equipped with RGB pure laser projection systems.
CJ 4DPlex today announced a new partnership agreement with GDC Technology to work together to identify new opportunities for ScreenX and 4DX to expand the companies’ exhibition network across Latin America.
