The American Society of Cinematographers celebrates its 100th anniversary today and to mark the occasion, the society released their members’ list of 100 Milestone Films in the art and craft of cinematography of the 20th century. The list is the first of its kind to showcase the best of cinematography as selected by professional cinematographers. The list culminates in a Top 10, with the other 90 titles unranked. The American Society of Cinematographers Photo Gallery will re-open with a public debut on September 9 at the historic ASC clubhouse in Hollywood. The exhibit will feature an entirely new collection of still photographs by nine members of the organization, curated by Paris Chong, manager of Leica Gallery LA.
Greig Fraser, ASC, won the coveted Theatrical Award for best cinematography in a motion picture for Lion at the 31st Annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for Outstanding Achievement. The ASC Spotlight Award went to Gorka Gómez Andreu, AEC, for House of Others. Winners in the TV categories included Fabian Wagner, BSC for Game of Thrones, Tod Campbell for Mr. Robot and Igor Martinovic for The Night Of.
The American Society of Cinematographers has announced nominees in the Theatrical Release and Spotlight categories for the 31st Annual ASC Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography. Winners will be named on February 4 at the Society’s awards gala held at Hollywood & Highland’s Ray Dolby Ballroom.
Honoring one of Hollywood’s biggest icons, the American Society of Cinematographers will bestow their Board of Governors Award on director Denzel Washington on February 4, 2017, during the 31st ASC Awards at Hollywood & Highland’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. The organization presents the accolade to individuals in the industry whose body of work has made significant and indelible contributions to cinema. It is the only ASC Award not given to a cinematographer, and is reserved for filmmakers who have been champions for directors of photography and the visual art form.
Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC; Vanja Cernjul, ASC, HFS; Pierre Gill, CSC; Adam Arkapaw, ACS; and Mátyás Erdély, HSC earned top honors in the four competitive categories at the 30th Annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for Outstanding Achievement.
The American Society of Cinematographers will honor the extraordinary achievements of director-producer Ridley Scott in advancing the art and craft of filmmaking by bestowing him with the organization’s annual Board of Governors Award. The presentation will be made during the 30th ASC Awards for Outstanding Achievement on February 14, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
John Bailey, Bill Roe, Phil Méheux and Matthew F. Leonetti will be honored during the 29th Annual American Society of Cinematographers awards ceremony February 15, 2015, at the Hyatt Regency Century City.
