The Vermont College of Fine Arts  has announced the creation of the Independent Filmmaker Production Grant, a thesis completion fellowship for students of the new MFA in Film degree program during their final year of study. The fellowship will go to support the production of film thesis projects of creative merit.

The awarding of these competitive production grants will require a detailed budget submission to accompany thesis proposals in the third residency of the program for consideration and recommendation by the Thesis Review Board. The first awards will be considered for the October 2014-2015 academic year for students who begin their MFA program in October 2013.

The MFA in Film at VCFA was created to examine and expand narrative, documentary, and animated film, taking full advantage of the next generation of digital production and distribution platforms. As the art of filmmaking has changed in both content and process, these changes offer significant opportunities for new approaches to the education of emerging filmmakers.

Students may focus on live action narrative or documentary projects, animation, screenwriting, or a combination of these forms. The diverse and highly accomplished faculty of working artists offer guidance toward the development of students' individual artistic visions, craftsmanship, creative practices, and audiences.
