Dolby Laboratories today announced that Sony’s soundbar HT-ST5000 and AV Receiver STR-DN1080 will feature Dolby Atmos moving audio.
Both Sony’s soundbar HT-ST5000 and AV Receiver STR-DN1080, featuring Dolby Atmos, will be available first in North America in spring of 2017, followed by global availability. Sony’s HT-ST5000 soundbar includes a pair of upward firing speakers that conform to the Dolby Atmos standard for overhead sound reproduction of object and channel based content. In addition, the soundbar includes the Dolby Surround upmixer, which decodes and directs sounds to all of the speakers in the soundbar including up-firing capabilities to provide a higher sense of immersion from all channel-based content.
“Sony’s delivery of its first soundbar with Dolby Atmos is a testament to the importance of quality sound and the impact it can bring to entertainment experiences worldwide,” said Giles Baker, senior vice president, consumer entertainment group, Dolby Laboratories. “As more Dolby Atmos enabled products hit the market from leading manufacturers like Sony, more consumers around the world will be able to experience the growing volume of Dolby Atmos content than ever before."
Twenty-five titles in Dolby Atmos are now available for over-the-top delivery by streaming-service providers like Vudu. More than 150 titles on Blu-ray Disc have featured a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, and more than 60 percent of the UHD Blu-ray media released include the format.
“With the combination of Dolby Atmos and our original audio solution S-Force Pro Front Surround Technology, HT-ST5000 will provide consumers the powerful, best sound experiences for the home just by connecting one device,” said Yoshinori Matsumoto, senior general manager, Sony Video & Sound Products. “HT-ST5000 is a soundbar, with a very compact design, that can be easily placed in front of TV and we are confident that our customers will want to upgrade their system with Dolby Atmos to deliver the ultimate home theater entertainment.”
