Side Effect recently screened at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood during the 8th Annual Shriekfest Film Festival.  After playing to a fervent crowd and receiving thunderous applause Side Effect was awarded with the Pretty/Scary Award for Excellence in Horror Filmmaking.  With a multitude of international film festival screenings on the calendar Side Effect has already garnered the Best Screenplay Award at the Chicago Horror Film Festival Best Short at Germany’s Oldendburg Film Festival and the coveted golden chainsaw statuette in the Cutting Edge Short Film Competition at the Dead by Dawn Film Festival in Edinburgh Scotland. Up next Side Effect will screen at the Denver International Film Festival the weekend of November 21st-23rd. “I spent all damn day at Shriekfest my favorite horror film festival (and I’ve been to a lot of them).  I caught twenty-two films most of them shorts ” wrote Paula “Horror Chick” Haifley reporter and blogger for www.cincity2000.com. “Side Effect was the Best Short and also won the Pretty Scary award. Writer-director Liz Adams took the first ten pages from her feature script Blood Level and turned them into a very effective stand-alone piece and I can see it working very well for the beginning of a feature just like Amber Tamblyn’s opening scene in ‘The Ring.’” Adams has written and directed several short films for festival exhibition. Side Effect was made during her participation in the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women. She continues to submit Side Effect for festival exhibition.
