The potential and pitfalls of event cinema will be explored October 17 at ShowEast 2022 this year with a special session entitled Event Cinema – Filling the Void. With fewer features currently dated on the film calendar for 2023, is there an opportunity for event cinema to take a bigger role in exhibition? What is a realistic expectation for the sector? What are the new opportunities beyond the traditional arts and more recent growth areas, such as anime and K-Pop?

Do exhibitors have to adopt more of a distribution role to test and nurture new content? How is it possible to transition a limited event into a more traditional theatrical run to maximize its box office return? And how can distributors manage to message for event releases across multiple premium large format theatres?

The panel discussing all of this includes Lynne Schmidt, senior vice president, operations, Fathom Events; Marc Allenby, CEO, Trafalgar Releasing; and Marco Damian, deputy director content and event cinema, Event Space Cinema / Cinépolis.

The moderator will be James Dobbin, director of event cinema, National Amusements UK & International.
