Strike Media has appointed Melissa Cogavin to the new position of consultant. Her role will be to grow the footprint and profile of Strike Media and advise on event cinema campaigns. Cogavin will also work closely on the expansion and growth of the social film app MyFilmClub for Wez Merchant, owner of both Strike Media and Under The Influence Of, MyFilmClub’s parent company.
Cogavin recently stepped down from the Event Cinema Association as managing director to pursue new avenues including her own freelance projects. She spent six years founding and building the international trade body to promote and support the event cinema industry. Prior to that she was a consultant in the emerging alternative content industry and included amongst her client base the Royal Opera House, RealD, and CinemaLive. Her background in theatrical distribution at Disney and later at Paramount Pictures as director of film operations gives her a thorough and deep understanding of the film industry.
Cogavin will support Merchant and joins Keir Waller, Molly Goring, Victoria Naumova and Zoe Osborne.
Merchant said, “Our event cinema business has grown substantially over the past few years and this has in no small part been down to Melissa’s amazing work in creating the ECA, her introductions and recommendations through that; Melissa’s contacts, writing skills and expertise in this specialist area will add another dimension to Strike Media. Her connections and insights will also be valuable to MyFilmClub as we move into our next stage of development - seeking new avenues of industry awareness, support and consumer retention and funding.”
Merchant added, “Melissa’s involvement with Strike Media also complements our work with the Cineplace account, whose commitment to event cinema is shaping and nurturing this growth area.”
