Dinosaur 13Lionsgate has announced the limited theatrical, on demand and digital HD release of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival documentary hit, Dinosaur 13.  The film will be available day-and-date in select theaters including New York and Los Angeles, on August 15.

When renowned paleontologist Peter Larson and his team from the Black Hills Institute made the world’s greatest dinosaur discovery in 1990, they knew it was the find of a lifetime: the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex ever found.  But during a ten-year battle with the U.S. government, powerful museums, Native American tribes and competing paleontologists, they found themselves not only fighting to keep their dinosaur but fighting for their freedom as well. Dinosaur 13 is based on the book Rex Appeal: The Amazing Story of Sue, The Dinosaur That Changed Science, The Law and My Life by Peter Larson and Kristin Donnan.

Critics agree that Dinosaur 13 was “quite the find” at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.  Eric Kohn at IndieWire said, “Dinosaur 13 is both awe-inspiring and tragic,” Anna Agadjanyan at Geekscape defined it as “A most fascinating look into something so few of us know anything about,” and The Hollywood Reporter’s John DeFore described the film as an “Involving story of scientific discovery and petty politics.”

Dinosaur 13 features never-before-seen footage culled from over 300 hours of film that had been locked away since the original trial, as well as numerous interviews with Peter Larson and his team of paleontologists that discovered Sue, the politicians and members of the military that tried to remove the dinosaur from their possession, the legal teams that defended both sides of the ownership debate and participated in the trial as well as additional notable figures that witnessed the drama.

The film includes interviews from Stan Adelstein, Lanice Archer, Robert Bakker, Vincent Black Feather, David Burnham, Phil Currie, Kristin Donnan Standard, Patrick Duffy, Bruce Ellison, Denise Etzhorn, Bob Farrar, Henry Galiano, Bill Harlan, Susan Hendrickson, Lynn Hochstafl, Jack Horner, Peter Larson, Neal Larson, Phil Manning, Marv Matkins, Dr. Carson Murdy, Kevin Nelson, Louis Psihoyos, David Redden, Vincent Santucci, Harold Sykora, Terry Wentz and Marion Zenker.  The film was produced, edited and directed by Todd Miller.
