After a long delay caused by the global pandemic, Kinepolis today finally opened the doors to its newest cinema, which is located in Centrum Schalkwijk in Haarlem, the Netherlands.

After a long delay caused by the global pandemic, Kinepolis today finally opened the doors to its newest cinema, which is located in Centrum Schalkwijk in Haarlem, the Netherlands. The cinema has six screens and 937 seats, and all screens are equipped with laser projection, including one with Laser Ultra technology. In that auditorium, Kinepolis combines 4K-laser projection with Dolby Atmos sound for an even more intense film experience. Kinepolis Haarlem is the Group's nineteenth cinema in the Netherlands. The twentieth cinema complex is currently under construction in Leidschendam.

The opening of the brand-new cinema in Haarlem fits in with the redevelopment of the Schalkwijk center. In addition to residential apartments and a commercial zone, this urban development includes an above ground car park with 600 spaces and a new access bridge to the area.  Kinepolis incorporated the project for the new cinema with the acquisition of NH Cinemas in January 2018.

“Our sector has been badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Eddy Duquenne, CEO Kinepolis Group. “But we have confidence in the future, because experiencing a film in the cinema is, and always will be, a unique experience. That is why we are continuing to build several new cinemas. In the coming months, in addition to the brand-new cinema in Haarlem, we will also be opening a new cinema complex in Leidschendam in the Netherlands, and another in Canada. We are extremely proud that, as of today, we can offer the people living in and around Haarlem a unique cinematic experience and we would like to invite them to come and enjoy great films on the big screen in a safe environment.”

Kinepolis now has 111 cinemas worldwide, 56 of which are in Europe and 55 in Canada and the United States. All cinemas have been heavily impacted by the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent months. With the exception of 10 cinemas in the US, Kinepolis was able to reopen almost all of its cinemas at the beginning of the summer, albeit with significant restrictive measures to protect the health of visitors and staff.

The 10 cinemas in the US, operated under the MJR brand and all located in Michigan, have remained closed for the past months. Beginning tomorrow, they will also be able to welcome visitors again.
