The Kinepolis group has announced the opening of Luxembourg's first cinema equipped with ScreenX technology, set to open its doors October 2 at Kinepolis Belval.
This marks another milestone for the group, following the launch of the country's first Imax theatre in October 2023.
CJ 4DPlex's ScreenX technology provides a more immersive viewing experience by extending the film projection beyond the traditional central screen to two additional side screens, covering the side walls of the theatre. This creates a 270° panoramic experience, enveloping the audience in select scenes specifically designed for this extended format. Two projectors located on either side of the main screen facilitate this visual expansion.
According to Kinepolis, the renovation work for this innovative theatre began September 2 and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. While Kinepolis Luxembourg operates three cinema complexes, including one at Kirchberg with ten screens, the new ScreenX theatre will be located at the Belval site, which houses seven screens within Belval Plaza.
For now, Kinepolis has not disclosed which movie will premiere in the ScreenX format in October, but an announcement is expected sometime next week.
Coincidentally, that date aligns with the highly anticipated release of Joker: Folie à Deux – the sequel to Todd Phillips' much lauded Joker – starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
