The Event Cinema Association is hosting a morning of activities June 21 at the Hotel SB Diagonal Zero, across the road from the CCIB Convention Centre in Barcelona, site of CineEurope 2017. The ECA is also hosting its annual evening reception.
The ECA Seminar and Showcase, which begins at 9:00 a.m., is free of charge and features presentations, international speakers and a new show-reel of upcoming content for the 2018 slate from ECA members, many of whom have just announced their fall season.
The morning will feature a showcase opportunity for ECA distributor and content producer members to present content and offer promotional material and merchandise, all with the comfort of coffee and chocolate churros, a local pastry speciality.
The format of the day includes a Focus on China segment, and David Hancock from IHS will present the facts and figures from his most recent report. Then in an industry first, there will be a presentation given by the newest ECA member Citylights Events, a new company financed by Bingo Cinemas, a multiplex operator in Shanghai. The company is visiting Barcelona to make contacts and acquire content for release in China. Founders of Citylights Yan Yin and Ryan Hickey will highlight the opportunities and challenges of releasing content in China and debunking some of the myths surrounding this most complex of territories.
Yan said, “Event cinema is a massive, untapped opportunity in China and we are very happy to be coming to Barcelona and working with the ECA to make new contacts and find distribution and content partners, and we are proud to be bringing such world class content to cinemas throughout China.”
“The Event Cinema industry is sufficiently large now that it needs its own arena to debate issues of the day and get down to that all-important networking,” said Melissa Cogavin, ECA’s managing director. “The ECA itself is five years old now and counts 200 companies amongst its membership from 38 territories worldwide. We are really excited about the plans we have for this year, especially our Focus on China, and it’s great to be creative with the space at the Hotel Zero both during the day and in the evening. We look forward to celebrating our fifth birthday there in style. A big thank you to all our members and sponsors for making this possible, it’s great to be working together again like this.”
Sponsored by EDCF, CinemaLive, Éclair, Motion Picture Solutions and Gofilex, with many more opportunities still available, the event is free to attend for anyone with an interest, and there will be coffee, churros and refreshments served over the course of the day.
David Hancock, President of the EDCF said, “The EDCF sees collaboration in this area is useful and productive all round, as is the mutual sharing of information, so we are delighted to be partnering again with the ECA and we are sure Melissa and her team will put on the usual high quality event that we’ve come to expect.”
While the daytime event is free entry, the evening drinks reception is for ECA members and their guests only. For more information on the ECA Showcase in Barcelona please contact [email protected].
