Cineworld, the UK’s number one cinema chain, has opened the first 4DX cinema in the UK. The 4D cinematic experience stimulates all five senses. The new 4DX auditorium, made by CJ 4DPlex, includes high-tech motion seats and multisensory environmental effects including wind, water, fog, lightning, bubbles, rain and scents, in both 2D and 3D formats, which work in perfect synchronicity with the action on screen.
The technology was developed in South Korea by the CJ conglomerate, a leader in the Asian entertainment industry and has been adopted by the Hollywood Studios. With that support, more than 220 movies so far have been screened in 150 4DX auditoriums in 30 countries worldwide.
The first UK 4DX cinema is located in Milton Keynes, 74km northwest of London. Cineworld is located inside Xscape Milton Keynes, one of the largest cultural complex centers in the region.
Cineworld Milton Keynes held the 4DX premiere on the 29th January with the first film screened Kingsman: The Secret Service. Journalists from dozens of UK national and regional media and a couple of UK's celebrities were invited to the 4DX premiere.
Mooky Greidinger, Cineworld chief executive officer said, "We are incredibly excited to be bringing this revolutionary cinematic experience to the UK. Cineworld Milton Keynes will be our first location among many others to come. In 4DX, cinema-goers will become part of the action as motions, sounds, lights, and special effects thrill them in their seats."
Byung-whan Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX said, "It is meaningful because we opened up the possibilities to open additional cinemas in the Western Europe, a relatively conservative film market. We are excited to have built the partnership with Cineworld, one of the biggest cinema chains in Europe."
