Arclight Films, and Huace Pictures, a subsidiary of Huace Media Group, one of the largest distributors of media content in China, have signed director Brian De Palma to direct the new action-thriller Lights Out. Lights Out will be the first project run through Arclight Films’ & Huace Media Group’s joint venture, Aurora Alliance Films.

An internationally acclaimed director, De Palma was awarded the prestigious Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker award at the 2015 Venice Film Festival; De Palma, a documentary about De Palma’s four decade career in movies, played to full houses with standing ovations and rave reviews.

Huace Media Group, one of China’s top publicly traded Film/TV financing and production companies, is working with Easternlight to package the film that is currently in pre-production and is undergoing an impressive casting process.

“We’re excited and honored to be working with one of the great living film directors, Brian De Palma, on Lights Out.” Said Ying Ye, managing director of Aurora Alliance Films. “De Palma is a proven master of suspense; in the hands of the legendary director, Lights Out promises to be a thriller for the ages, full of empowering messages, harrowing plot turns and great action sequences.”

Lights Out tells the story of a blind Chinese girl unknowingly caught in a plot to expose a top-secret assassination program. Destined to become a feminist icon for the ages, Lin Shen raises unsettling questions about government secrecy and what can and can’t be seen – while keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.

Casting is currently underway for top roles, including with an A-list Chinese actress to star as the female action hero lead.

Lights Out will be produced by Jon Chieuw of Huace Media Group, Ying Ye of Aurora Alliance Films, Gary Hamilton, Mike Gabrawy, Elliot Tong with Toronto-based Jennifer Weiss and Simone Urdl of The Film Farm.

Arclight Films is handling international sales.

De Palma is represented by John Burnham of ICM and attorney Donald Steele.
