72andSunny has selected high-speed transfer and automation software from Aspera, an IBM company, as the backbone for its new cloud-based media management platform, providing high performance transfers to cloud-based media asset management systems and enabling collaboration between creative teams worldwide.
72andSunny set out to create a world-class studio that would produce cutting-edge design, editorial, visual effects and graphics. To stay ahead of the curve and future-proof its media assets, 72andSunny takes advantage of the newest technology advances by shooting in 4k and 6k resolutions, which results in massive file sizes that are too difficult to transport using traditional transfer technologies. As a key component of 72andSunny’s cloud-based, integrated media management system, Aspera scales fluidly to meet demand for 72andSunny’s rapidly growing asset library. Leveraging Aspera’s high-speed transfer platform enables 72andSunny to quickly move, synchronize, and exchange large media files between its global offices, field locations, customers and partners at maximum speed, regardless of file size, transfer distance, or network conditions.
72andSunny uses FASP to transfer large video files and metadata from their on-premises data center SAN directly to the cloud storage at maximum speed, with seamless integration to MediaSilo and Vidispine digital asset management systems in the cloud. Aspera Orchestrator fully automates the workflow; once files are tagged for upload on the SAN, Orchestrator initiates a file format validation to ensure compliance, extracts metadata from the video files, and triggers high-speed FASP transfers to the MediaSilo and Vidispine digital asset management systems in the cloud. The entire transfer process is monitored and managed from within the Aspera Console web application, also running on-demand in the cloud.
Aspera facilitates collaboration between widely dispersed teams – with many employees using wireless connections – by transferring large files over Wi-Fi and cellular networks at speeds that are significantly faster than traditional mobile transfer technologies. This eliminates the need for employees to “plug-in” at the office to share large files, allowing teams to continue working as usual while transferring files wirelessly.
72andSunny enlisted the services of digital asset management consulting group XPlatform Consulting to develop the comprehensive solution supporting the strategic shift of their media management system to the cloud. XPlatform Consulting quickly nominated Aspera’s high-speed FASP transfer technology for the solution, confident that the unrivaled performance, security, ease of integration and reliability of the Aspera solution would complement the proposed digital asset management system effectively.
“Aspera’s high-speed transfer technology powers our workflow from start to finish. By speeding up file movement and automating the ingest into the media asset management platforms, we are able to reduce turnaround times, increase efficiency, and simplify collaboration between teams located around the world,” said Casey Franks, director of IT at 72andSunny.
“Aspera’s value for business is self-evident. 72andSunny came to this realization first hand after witnessing the technology’s capabilities for simple file transfers. Once we demonstrated the web applications and how the solutions all fit within a tightly integrated ecosystem of third-party applications, they realized this would solve their collaboration needs as well,” said Nicholas Stokes, founder at XPlatform Consulting.
“We’re excited to be a part of this integrated solution for content management and distribution that will enable 72andSunny to support their high-profile clientele with next-generation media technologies and build out their business with the knowledge that Aspera will be able to scale to meet growing demand,” said Michelle Munson, CEO and co-founder of Aspera.
